  • Finding Your Vocation
You can't talk about higher education long without the word "vocation" coming up. Students are supposed to pick a vocation, and school itself is sometimes referred to as vocational training. The word has become synonymous with career and occupation. But the word vocation is actually a little more complex than that. [...]
  • College Life = Party Life?
People have a variety of thoughts on "going away to college." Some think of the academics, taking challenging classes and studying in the library all night. Others think of the athletics, all that school spirit concentrated in one place. Finally, some others think of "Animal House" – four years of parties and drinking. Church of Christ Schools

What is Churches of Christ?

Churches of Christ are autonomous Christian congregations associated with one another through common beliefs and practices. They seek to base doctrine and practice on the Bible alone, and see themselves as restoring the New Testament church established by Christ.

Churches of Christ was established around the early 1900s, but their beliefs that Christians should only observe the New Testament have been around for centuries. Churches of Christ observe most of the same acts of faith as other Christian denominations, like baptism, communion and community worship.

There are some differences in their beliefs: there is no use of musical instruments in service. Although they view the Old Testament as divinely inspired and historically accurate, they do not see its laws as binding under the New Covenant in Christ (unless they are repeated in the New Testament).

Churches of Christ Colleges and Universities

Like many Christian denominations, Churches of Christ have a long history in education, and have many colleges and universities in the U.S. and abroad. Also like many other Christian schools, they admit students from other faiths.

Some Church of Christ colleges require daily chapel and Bible courses that contribute to the open acknowledgment of Christian faith as an important aspect of the lives of students. These colleges and universities normally are a Liberal Arts institution and some even offer online courses.

How a Christian education helps you?

Since Church of Christ colleges and universities are private institutions, they offer a number of religious-related programs and courses. These schools normally have a strong commitment to tradition, values and faith.

Christian colleges and schools also like to help the community. Whether it is through mission trips abroad to volunteering locally, Christian colleges put a heavy emphasis on helping those in need and spreading the great word of God. For students whose faith is a large part of their life, studying at a Christian university can be a rich and rewarding opportunity.
